Fae Fits The Profile

Ellington To Take Reins Of Long-Running Interview Programme

Come April 1, veteran journalist Fae Ellington will be the new face on one of Television Jamaica's most renowned programmes, Profile. The iconic media personality, however, made it clear that she has no desire to compete with the legacy set by her predecessor, the late Ian Boyne.

"I know people are going to make comparisons. That is human and that is natural. This is not a programme where I will be trying to do what Ian did. It's an interview and personality programme, that is a fact, but I will bring my own style and experience to it. It's not about filling shoes," she declared.

"I use my own life in theatre as an example. I see this as a script where you have act one and after that, a new character will be introduced. You can't undo what Ian did. There will be comparisons, but I am not worried about that. I know the quality of my work, and it speaks for itself."

 PERFECT TIMING

Ellington pointed to the perfect timing of her appointment, noting that she retires as lecturer at the Caribbean School of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) in a few months, after 33 years. Also, she believes that her experience over the years will create a platform where excellence is guaranteed.

"The timing was perfect all round," she told The Gleaner.

"I feel at home, and Ian was my friend. This is not new to me. I am coming to that place where I would have a bit more time because I am looking at retirement at the end of July from CARIMAC. It takes time to prepare yourself and to research, and I am very big on researching.

Ellington added: " Because of my training and my personality, I make people comfortable fairly easily. You have to build trust for people to want to share personal things. I just see it as carrying on the work that needs to be done and doing it to the best of my ability. I am happy for the opportunity and grateful that the relevant persons had the confidence in me to make a valuable contribution."

Her message to Jamaicans is, "I hope they will join me every Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. to hear another Jamaican share their story that might be inspiring, thought provoking, and entertaining. It is not only those who have had hard times, but people who have something to say."
